The Prayers of the People

Pentecost Season - Fall

The leader of the Intercessions stands in the middle of the congregation.  The people respond to the prayers as indicated.

O God, most glorious and most bountiful, we give you thanks for the fellowship of the Church, for the sacraments that comfort us and strengthen our souls, and the holy fellowship of faithful companions to share in Christ’s mission.  Receive our prayers for Rowan, Archbishop of Canterbury; Katharine our Presiding Bishop; George and Sylvestre, our Bishops; for Dirk, Joan, and Lisa, our priests; and ___________________ in the Anglican Communion.

Unite us in one great company of disciples, that we may faithfully serve your people in the world.

For the human family, made in your image yet divided by sin: Lead us from prejudice to truth; deliver us from hatred, cruelty, and the spirit of revenge,

And enable us to stand before you, reconciled through Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord.

For our nation and for all in authority.

Inspire us with the spirit of tolerance, justice, truth and love.

Author of creation, you provide all that is necessary to sustain life.  In this season of harvest we give you thanks for the fruits of the earth and the labors of those who bring them to us.

Guide us to preserve the earth for the well-being of all your creatures and share its bounty with those who hunger and thirst.

For our community, for those we know and love, and for those you bring into our midst, that we may seek and serve Christ in one another, loving our neighbors as ourselves. We pray especially for ____________ who celebrate their birthdays this week; for _________ who celebrate their anniversaries, and _________ serving in regions of conflict.

Strengthen them in their joy, comfort them in their sorrows, and grant that our fellowship may be a blessing to many.

In Christ you still the storm and soothe the frantic heart; bring hope and courage to all who suffer, especially: ________and those we now name: ___________ .  and grant strength and rest to those who care for them.

Help our hands to be your hands, that we may be ministers of your care and compassion.

Good Shepherd, receive the souls of those who have died, especially __________ whom we remember at this time, and bring them into the fellowship of the heavenly banquet.

May they go from strength to strength in the life of perfect service in your heavenly Kingdom.

We give you thanks for Mary, the mother of Christ;, Luke, our patron, and all the saints and witnesses of the church triumphant gathered in heaven whose lives inspire us and whose prayers support us;

May we keep you in perfect vision in all our labors on earth, that we may share with them in divine fellowship for all eternity.

The Celebrant then adds a concluding Collect
